Mot people imagine New York to be a city of sky scrapers. Perhaps too, they associate the city with the Wold Trade Center, the statue of Liberty, Fifth Avenue, Times Square, the United Nations, and Central Park and so on. Except for the Statue of Liberty all these places are in one part of the city, that is, Manhattan, which seems to be an island of skyscrapers.
The city is also a place where the headquarters of the United Nations is located. People from all over the world live in the citysand work at the United Nations. The translator working at the UN must speak one of the five official languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese.
The World Trade Center is a "United Nations of Com merce"along Hudson River. The towers of the World Trade Center are 405 meters high, and each has 110 floors. Together the two towers have 48 600 windows. Three of the 102 elevators in each tower can take you from the first to the ll0th floor in one minute. Besides, there are international banks, government offices, transportation companies, restaurants and import and export businesses inside the twin towers. The lob by of a building is usually on the ground floor, but at the World Trade Center there are lobbies in the sky!

In my memory, I will never efface the image of a common service worker.
It was last New Year when all my family members gathered together that suddenly the heating pipe broke up. The warm steam burst forth from the crack. We could do nothing but have a shot at calling the household management center. Fortunately, someone answered it and decided to send a person here.
Ten minutes later, a middle-aged man came. He quickly shut the valve, but one of his hand was hurt by a spine carelessly. Not having a rest, he replaced the broken pipe. It took him half an hour to finish replacing it. Only after that did he remember his injured hand.
In our thankful sight, he disappeared in the curtain of night. He must have been getting together with his family, but he did the job for the sake fo others’ convenience at this special night. What a nice man! I will never forget him.

Dogs belong to the canine.
When a dog follows its nose, it's actually being led by thee key senses. Sight:a glimpse of the enemy saves them barking up the wrong tree. Sound: a bark can be a fierce threat, but it's also how canines make their long distance calls. Smell: this tells a dog more than all the other senses put together.
Inside its nose are around two hundred million smell sensitive cells, forty times more than in humans. Through them the dog's brain can pick up signals from one molecule of scent in a million. It gives the dog: a completely different picture of the world, based on what it smells, rather than what it sees.
Flowers are irrelevant to a dog. So their scent is meaningless. But food is a serious matter. What to us is an empty plate, is covered with the smell of chicken to a hungry dog.

My parents live in the country. They keep a dog called Ah Fu. One day my parents went to work in the fields taking my little sister and Ah Fu along. While they were wokring, my sister walked to a river nearby. Ah Fu followed her there. She was trying to pick a flower when she fell into the river. Ah Fu barked and jumped into the water immediately . When my parents heard Ah Fu barking they ran to the river. They saw Ah Fu swimming towards the bank carrying my little sister. My parents praised Ah Fu warmly. It was our brave Ah Fu who had saved my little sister.

I think the essence of wisdom is emancipation, as far as possible, from the tyranny of the here and the now. We cannot help the egoism of our senses. Sight and sound and touch are bound up with our own bodies and cannot be made impersonal. Our emotions start similarly from ourselves. An infant feels hunger or distress, and is unaffected except by his own physical condition. Gradually with the years, his horizon widens, and, in proportion as his thoughts and feelings become less personal and less concerned with his own physical states, he achieves growing wisdom. This is of course a matter of degree. No one can view the world with complete justice, and if anyone could, he would hardly be able to remain alive. But it is possible to make a continual approach towards justice, on the one hand, by knowing things somewhat remote in time or space, and, on the other hand,by giving to such things their due weight in our feelings. It is this approach towards justice that constitutes growth in wisdom.
Can wisdom be taught? And, if it can, should the teaching of it be one of the aims of education? I should answer both these questions in the affirmative. I do not think that knowledge and morals ought to be too much separated. Even the best technicians should also be good citizens: and when I say
"citizens," I mean citizens of the world and not of this or that sect or nation. With every increase of knowledge and skill,wisdom becomes more necessary, for every such increase strengthens our capacity of realizing our purposes, and therefore strengthens our capacity for evil, if our purposes are unwise. The world needs wisdom as it has never needed it before: and if knowledge continues to increase, the world will need wisdom in the future even more than it does now.
